Giles County High ~ Searches
Students should be aware that with “reasonable suspicion” your locker, book bags, pocketbooks, containers, and person may be searched for illegal drugs, weapons, alcohol or other questionable content. Vehicles parked on school property are subject to search at any time. Cell phones, Ipods, laptops, tablets, and other electronic devices are subject to search will on school grounds. There will also be random unannounced searches conducted throughout the year.
Giles County School District has entered into an agreement with Interquest Detection Canines, INC to provide trained detection canines in randomly unannounced inspections of all campus locations in the county. The canines are trained to detect the presence of illicit drugs, prescription pills, alcohol, and firearms. Campus buildings, parking lots and grounds will be randomly inspected for prohibited items. If detected and found, the county will initiate the appropriate disciplinary action. The canines are non-aggressive and they are trained to discriminate specific “scents” of contraband items. With the recent publicity concerning the dramatic increase in teenage drug use and shootings, Giles County Schools are taking every reasonable precaution to ensure a safe and heathy learning environment for all concerned.
