Giles County High ~ Early Dismissals & Returning to School after being Absent

Returning to school after absence

  1. Bring a note from stating the reason for your absence
  2. Turn it in to the Receptionist/Attendance secretary located in the main lobby before 7:55 am
  3. You will be given an Admit slip to show the teacher of the class(es) you missed.
  4. Have the teacher sign the Admit slip for every class that missed.
  5. Leave the Admit slip with your 5th period teacher at the end of the day.

 Early Dismissal Procedure

Occasionally, a student may have to leave school before dismissal due to certain situations. Parents and students should try to keep early dismissals to a minimum. The procedure is as follows:

  1. Parents/Guardians must call the school before 9:00 a.m. to verify an early dismissal. The school is not responsible for calling the parent.
  2. Bring a note from home stating the reason or leaving, time of dismissal, parent or guardian signature, and telephone number of the parent or guardian.
  3. Turn in the note to that attendance secretary located in the front lobby.
  4. When your dismissal time comes, go by the office and sign out.

Note – Remember…students will not be allowed to leave school unless the note is verified by a phone call prior to your signing out.

If a student finds it necessary to leave during the day and DID NOT bring an early dismissal note, he/she should follow this procedure:

  1. Have your parent/guardian contact the school to verify you need to leave
  2. Obtain a slip, “Excuse to Leave School” from the office (green note). Under NO circumstances shall a student leave school without parents knowing it.

If a student leaves school with an unexcused early dismissal he/she may not return to school that day (this includes for athletics practices). Excused early dismissal students may return to school with a note from the office regarding his/her appointment.
