Enrollment in College Level Courses
Students in grades nine through twelve (9-12) may enroll in available advanced courses including, but not limited to, advanced English language arts, mathematics, or science courses.
To enroll in these courses, students shall meet the following standards:
1. Honors Courses: Earn a passing grade in prerequisite subjects and score met expectations or exceeded expectations on TCAP
2. Dual Credit Courses: Earn a passing grade in prerequisite subjects and score met expectations or exceeded expectations on TCAP
3. Industry Certification-Aligned Courses: Earn a passing grade in prerequisite subjects and score approaching expectations, met expectations or exceeded expectations on TCAP
4. Dual Enrollment: Earn a passing grade in prerequisite subjects and score met expectations or exceeded expectations on TCAP
5. Advanced Placement: Earn a passing grade in prerequisite subjects and score met expectations or exceeded expectations on TCAP
6. College Level Exam Program: Earn a passing grade in prerequisite subjects and score met expectations or exceeded expectations on TCAP
The principal of each school shall have the authority to require additional criteria for enrollment in advanced courses to fit the needs of the students within the school.
These courses may be offered at the high school, postsecondary institution, or online. If not offered on the high school campus, the Board shall not be responsible for transportation. Any tuition or fees due to enrollment in college-level courses are the responsibility of the parent(s)/guardian(s).
Grades earned in such college-level courses shall be used to determine class rank, grade point average, and class valedictorian or salutatorian.

Your high school counselor will make sure all UT Southern courses align with high school graduation requirements. The high school’s responsibility is to advise students about high school graduation requirements. ACT scores are used for placement in college courses. The Registrar’s Office cannot advise you. The student’s current high school transcript must be submitted with ACT scores to the UT Southern Admissions Office (UT Southern requires a minimum 3.0 high school GPA.) In order to continue as a Dual Enrollment student, the student must maintain a 3.0 GPA, and a 2.0 UT Southern GPA to continue.

- Students may take up to 6 hours per semester (9 with permission of Provost) and no more than 15 hours per year.
- Students enrolled at a Giles County school must have permission from the GCBOE to take courses not on this list.
